Lore City, the sonic duo of Laura Mariposa Williams (vocals, keyboard, guitar) and Eric Angelo Bessel (percussion, keyboard, guitar) based in Portland, OR, transports you to a landscape you’ve never witnessed. Their music is born from the transformational power of sound, where words, instruments, and rhythms work together, fusing indie psychedelia, dreampop, and darkwave sounds.

“Deep knowing, alongside the unfathomable unknown, is where we reside,” the duo shares. “Sonic soundscapes give way to archetypal figures and voices materialize. Sometimes we are just singing along with the ghosts that emerge from our chorus of effect pedals.”

On October 6, 2022, they will release their new 2 song 7″ vinyl EP Under Way, harkening back to the days of an A-side and a B-side. Two songs, pressed into another thing in a world on its way to something else. Under Way is about a wholeness between our very realities and how they merge.

Lore City 'Under Way'

The A-side track, “Animate,” has a dark ambience with lyrics that are chant-like, as if repeating a mantra or reciting a prayer. “No you and no me/Not you and not me/Everybody/Very body/Everybody/Very body,” sings Laura. The message becomes clear, that we need each other and that we are one with our surroundings. The B-side track, “Very Body,” is utterly stunning. It’s as if the music is listening to you with swooping and hovering sounds. It’s both grounding and dream-like, as if to acknowledge our states of consciousness and being.

Under Way follows full-length albums Participation Mystique (2021) and Alchemical Task (2020), as the third release from the Lore City Music imprint. The Lore City Music publishing imprint was established in 2020 to facilitate the musical releases of Laura Mariposa Williams and Eric Angelo Bessel.
