Nashville-based producer, songwriter, and performer Ross Flora unveils the focus track and lyric video for “Me and Abilene”, lifted from his debut EP Shoulders of Giants.
The single explores how the people and places we surround ourselves with shape us—both consciously and subconsciously. Through its first-ever lyric video, “Me and Abilene” follows a character standing at a crossroads, navigating the shifting terrain of life, regret, and self‑realization.
Ross explains, “‘Me and Abilene’ is about trying to get away from or escape some person or place—only to realize, as distance brings clarity, that the reasons for leaving pale in comparison to the regret of walking away. That person or place meant more than the character understood at the time.” The song captures not only the ache of escape but the restless rhythm of life on the road—the highs, lows, and hard truths that come with it.
He continues, “I wanted to write something deeper than just missing someone or somewhere. I wanted the character to own their decisions and face a true crossroads moment.” Ross draws from his own experiences traveling the country as a touring musician. “There have been places I wished I didn’t have to leave, but staying would mean betraying the life I’ve worked for. The character in ‘Me and Abilene’ carries a piece of that feeling.”
The track lyrically reflects the tension between moving forward and longing for what was left behind. “Now there’s a thousand miles between / Me and Abilene / And I’m wondering if she’s thinking ’bout me…” With his signature southern rock guitar work and unmistakable vocals, Ross delivers a performance steeped in nostalgia, vulnerability, and grit—solidifying his place as one of Nashville’s most in‑demand outlaw country acts.
Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Ross’ musical instincts were shaped by a wide range of eras and influences. “I wanted the setting to take place somewhere that wasn’t home,” he says. “While I love and miss Virginia, this song needed to symbolize a deliberate shift in the character’s nature—a curveball life throws that changes your path.”
With more than 3,500 shows under his belt, Ross Flora continues to carve out his place in Nashville’s music scene as a powerhouse vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter. His signature sound will be on full display as he hits the road across the U.S. next year. Follow Ross Flora on social media to stay updated on upcoming shows and releases.
