Self proclaimed theatre junkie and trained Jazz vocalist Ava Faith shares her newest song “Outside.” This 17-year-old from Miami is not one who can be put in a box, and “Outside” is the best example of that. This psychedelic and alterative rock song is beyond anything she’s ever done before. She’s not afraid to try new things and expand her musical abilities, making her one of the most talented and unique artists out there. Her music is best described as an eclectic blend of genres and her vocal style recalls some of the great female singers of the 1970s and 80s, while still sounding fresh and contemporary.

With sounds of modern-meets-classic rock, “Outside” is familiar yet new. The Pink Floyd and The Doors vibe of the song met with her raspy yet powerful voice is what makes this song stand out. Lyrically, it’s a relatable story that anyone can connect with. It’s about being an outsider even though you are doing everything society asks you to do. She sings “I know what it feels like to be on the outside; doing everything right, just to be on the outside.” She gets vulnerable and questions what being an outsider really is at the same time.

“This song has taken a journey and is a representation of the style of songs I write,” says Ava. “The verse is intentionally raw using a minor chord progression while the chorus switches to a major chord progression to emphasize the changing perspective. The bridge and the fade-out use a level of singing that I developed singing musical theater when I was younger and is intended to be reminiscent of a mythological siren. Lyrically this song expresses the emotion and frustration of working hard to do the right thing, only to find out that you don’t fit in, and the persona that develops as a result.”
