Written and produced entirely in his basement studio, the track finds Cruise reflecting on the whirlwind of his first tour while chasing a sound that’s playful, bold, and unlike anything he’s done before.
“The day after my first tour, I woke up, grabbed coffee, and went straight to the studio,” Cruise recalls. “I wanted to create something that felt different—something exciting and fun. I sat down at my piano, opened Ableton, and started building the demo for “Loverboy.” I pulled out my phone, hit record on a voice note, and began humming “L-O-V-E-R-B-O-Y,” or some version of it. It immediately felt nostalgic.”

Influenced by his Prince deep-dives on the road, Cruise built “Loverboy” as a genre-free playground; part alt-rock, part electronic, part indie, all him. On the surface, it’s upbeat and shiny; underneath, it’s heartbreakingly sad. It’s a push-and-pull that mirrors real life, and a trademark of his sound.
This single is the latest chapter in a meteoric rise. Cruise first turned heads with his breakout collaboration with WE ARE FURY, “Poem of a Killer”, which earned him 2 million streams and a feature on BBC Radio 1. He followed with alt-rock hits “Vampire U” and “Suicide In Her Head”, both racking up over 100K streams in their first month. Recent collaborations—including “SPIDERS” with Brassie and “Miracle” with WE ARE FURY—landed on Spotify’s All New Rock and All New Metal editorials.
In 2025 alone, Cruise headlined two tours, played over 35 shows, and released viral TikTok hits “Chérie” and “Dark Romance”. Each new song has been a window into the universe he’s building, a universe that will fully come alive on his forthcoming debut full-length project.
“Dropping singles is like sharing little glimpses of a bigger world I’ve been building”, he says. “I can’t wait for everyone to finally see what’s been living in my head.”
