Miami-based singer/songwriter Ariel Rose became an award-winning artist at the age of 15 with her single, “My Perfect Day,” which won 1st place in the Pop category in the Great American Song Contest.
Her love for Latin multi-cultural sounds and her classically-trained background caught the attention of multi-Latin Grammy nominated Colombian producer, Juan Vicente Zambrano who produced her first album, “Rhythms of Life,” recorded in English & Spanish. Ariel started developing her fanbase posting Spanish covers, being reposted by many Latin artists and has garnered over 20k+ followers on Instagram. Ariel Rose released a salsa version of Adele’s “Send My Love (To Your New Lover),” combining the rhythm & instrumentation of salsa with her strong melodic pop vocals to create a lively, fun & fresh new take on the song. Having performed around the country for various events & galas, her voice has captured the attention of thousands. Ariel released her latest original single & music video, “Somebody Loves You,” in May 2020 and partnered with the United Way to raise funds for its Miami Pandemic Response Fund. “Somebody Loves You” is an inspirational pop ballad featuring uplifting lyrics & powerful vocals that conveys the universal message of love and hope. More recently, Ariel was the featured vocalist on a Suncoast Emmy-winning project, called River of the Last Valley in the musical composition & arrangement category.
Ariel Rose is set to release her new Spanglish Visual EP, In Paraíso, on May 20, 2022, along with four music videos directed by Jose Alejandro Gonzalez of JAG Productions. The EP is a fusion of Latin genres with tropical pop instrumentation inspired by her hometown, Miami, and her love for Latin music. In Paraíso will feature original songs produced by the Latin Grammy nominated duo Mike Munoz & Gio Fernandez, who have written songs for Luis Fonsi, Pedro Capo, & Prince Royce, and it will also feature songs produced by the Grammy nominated/Latin Grammy winning Producer of the Year, Tony Succar, who has collaborated with Latin music giants Luis Enrique, La India, Gente de Zona, Tito Nieves and Sheila E. Ariel’s new EP features her first original salsa song, “Atrapada,” written with Tony Succar and the Latin Grammy winning songwriter and producer, Jorge Luis Piloto.
What led you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make a hit?
I have always been a performer, from the time I was a little girl. I started performing when I was 6 years old and come from a musical family. My grandfathers and my father were all musicians so it runs in the family! The advice that I would give to others is to give everything you do your all. Be open to learning and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Also, a teacher once told me, “Begin with the end in mind.” So make sure before you start any project to have a clear vision of what you want and where you want to go with it. I also live by the phrase, “Every ‘no’ is one step closer to a ‘yes.’” I know it may sound cliche, but it’s important to never give up and believe in yourself, despite any obstacles that may get in your way.
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
Growing up in Miami, I have always loved Latin music. I remember sitting on the swing set in my backyard listening to Ricky Martin on repeat. He was also my very first concert when I was 6 years old! While I am not of Latin heritage, I greatly admire the culture, the music, and the people. I have great respect for Latin music and love singing in Spanish. I began posting Spanish covers online and was consistently reposted by many well known Latin artists, and it was really rewarding to see that people enjoyed listening to me sing in Spanish. My first album when I was younger was also in English and Spanish. My new music is in Spanglish and is a fusion of Latin genres. It features bolero, reggaeton, salsa, tropical, and pop influences and I am really excited to begin sharing it with the world!
What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
Being an artist isn’t always easy, and it certainly has its ups and downs. But, I love what I do and I am so grateful I chose this career path. I enjoy making people’s days even the slightest bit better. People have come up to me after performances and said that I cheered them up or made them forget what they were going through and put them in a better mood, and for me, that’s what performing is all about— connecting with people.
What is your current music project about?
“En el Paraíso” is about leaving a relationship that you’re not happy with and doing what is best for you. It’s about freeing yourself and finding your own paradise. It’s about finally making the decision to move on. And the music video is really fun. It was directed by an incredible director and videographer, Jose Alejandro Gonzalez from JAX Productions, and it’s unique because it features me in my bedroom, dreaming of being somewhere else. I am in a very neutral setting and that is juxtaposed with a vivid and colorful version of me in animated form in my own version of paradise. I have always loved cartoons and the animation was done by an extremely talented animator, Ariana Aguilera. I was really happy with the way it turned out!
What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Are any releases planned?
In the next 6 months, you can expect a lot of new music! I have my EP, In Paraíso, released in May and have been working on other song collaborations that I cannot wait to share with you! So please make sure to follow me on social media and stay updated because a lot is coming!
Do you have a cherished childhood teddy bear or other stuffed animal sitting on your bed at home?
I do! This is actually a funny story. I have a pale pink soft stuffed doll with yellow hair named “Bobbie.” I actually won a speech competition and came in 1st place in Miami-Dade County when I was in 4th grade, after reciting a speech written solely about “Bobbie.” I believe she is my lucky charm!
What is the most useless talent you have?
I’m not sure if it’s completely useless but I am a pretty good baker (if I do say so myself!) lol I love baking chocolate chip cookies, cherry cheesecake, chocolate chip banana bread, and basically any dessert you can think of! I definitely have a sweet tooth!
If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
I would probably ask myself, “Do you have any regrets?” I try to live my life every day to the fullest and experience all that I can. I try to say “yes” to experiences and put myself out there. I’ve asked many older people this question, and they usually don’t regret the things they did, but the things they didn’t do.
If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?
SPANISH! Yo entiendo mucho español porque yo canto en español. Estoy aprendiendo y estoy mejorando, pero necesito practicar hablar más. (I understand a lot of Spanish because I sing in Spanish. I am learning and improving but I need to practice speaking it more!)
What’s your favorite children’s story?
When I was younger, my parents used to read me “Goodnight Moon” and it has always been my favorite! It’s very peaceful, I love the illustrations, and I think it’s a beautiful book.
