It’s no surprise that Thorn Haven has carved out a name for themselves in the alternative space with the recent release of their debut album, Never Present. Now pushing that momentum forward, the Denver-based alternative nu-metal band has just dropped the music video for their scathing track “I’m Gonna Be Sick.” With an unforgettable blue aura and unsettling flashes of bugs and roaches, the visual is the perfect pair for the punchy, pungent standout track off the album. The video for “I’m Gonna Be Sick” is now available on YouTube, and “Never Present” is available to stream and download on platforms worldwide.
Written over the course of nearly two years, Never Present functions as a concept album filled with 11 emotionally charged tracks that act as an intimate journal entry and a cathartic release for vocalist Steve Elzinga, whose life experiences are the heart of the record. There is something so special about an album that makes you feel the subject’s pain so deeply, one that many resonate with in a world that feels isolating, all while blending nu-metal heaviness, shoegazey atmospheres, and passionate songwriting. The storytelling is intense, yet inviting, extremely deep, and meaningful, ranging from topics like addiction and suicide to fractured family dynamics and isolation. Thorn Haven approaches difficult subject matter with honesty rather than abstraction, and it is very refreshing. Roaring guitar tones, gloomy vibes, soaring hooks, and bursts of aggression collide all over the project, creating a constant tension between fragility and vulnerability as a force to be reckoned with.
Thorn Haven is built within Colorado’s underground scene through their vigorous live performances and an expanding online presence. Influenced by some of the greats like Deftones, Freshwater, and Bleed, and even a bit of Three Days Grace, the band has crafted a style uniquely their own that is driven by heavy music and changing the game.
