‘Pillow Scream’ is the latest single from British singer-songwriter Will Knox. It follows his recent Growing Pains EP and is an early taste of his new album English Silence, due for release 27th September.

Reminiscent of artists like Elliott Smith, Bear’s Den, Villagers, Nick Mulvey, and Passenger, ‘Pillow Scream’ represents a return to Will’s acoustic and folk roots, a space where his emotionally vulnerable and thoughtful songwriting flourishes.

Recorded in London with producer Ian Grimble (Bear’s Den, Daughter, Axel Flovent), ‘Pillow Scream’ features solo acoustic guitar and honest, vulnerable vocals which rest upon subtle synths and supportive strings. The single will be released ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK (13th May to 19th May). This subject is essential to Will Knox’s songwriting ethos, as you’ll hear in both this single and the forthcoming album.

Reflecting upon the upcoming single, Will shares:

“I wrote Pillow Scream out of frustration. I was upset at myself for not being able to say what I wanted to someone because I feared their reaction. In fact, I ended up saying the opposite just to make them happy. I couldn’t speak my truth, be myself, and I realised that I was doing this all the time – whether in day-to-day life, relationships, or making music.

I’ve worked hard to break this habit, to be more honest, even if I risk upsetting or offending people along the way. I’ve found that the worst-case scenario I make up in my head rarely ever occurs, and most people respond rationally and empathetically when I’ve expressed my feelings sincerely.”

In additional news, Will Knox returns to London on June 6th to headline Green Note, with a headline UK and Netherlands tour in the pipeline for Autumn 2024.

Some of Will Knox’s notable releases so far include ‘Stolen Car’ (over 10 million streams) and his previous album Shedding + Blooming (over 4 million streams). Away from his solo artist project, Will is a well-respected and successful songwriter having received five Buma Awards and one ASCAP Award with credits on tracks totalling over 1 billion streams. He has written with artists such as Duncan Laurence, Son Mieux, Sarah Julia, néomí, Dotan, RONDE, Ilse DeLange, and many others.
