Canadian-based multi-genre artist, Lexxicon premiered the long-awaited music video for his single, ‘Power Over Me’ on September 10th.

Vibrant, eclectic and full of life, this new single perfectly reflects Lexxicon both as an artist and as a human being. And as the first single to be released from Lexxicon’s forthcoming album, ‘Power Over Me’ also sets the tone for the assortment of sounds, textures and themes expected from the artist’s third studio album, Tropicon Islands.

The first of a string of singles, ‘Power Over Me’ follows the story of a newly-in-love couple that have just landed on Tropicon Island, an imaginary Caribbean setting and the centre-stage of Lexxicon’s eponymously named, 11-track project. Determined to make a lasting impression, Lexicon’s album release will also be followed by the publication of his first self-written fiction novel which is cleverly set to the soundtrack of the album.

“After travelling to the island, the couple has time to reflect on how they feel about each other.  The song touches on the blinding love that you feel when you’ve found the ‘one’. It’s like nothing else matters because they are all you see, want, and care about.  Almost as if, they have this divine control over you. This is a song for those in love or those in the honeymoon stages of their new relationship.”

Impactful beats, catchy melodies and addictive grooves meet in ‘Power Over Me’, creating the ideal, steamy atmosphere for this romantic club banger packed with sensual lyricism and an irresistible danceability. Accompanied by a Prince shot and directed music video, ‘Power Over Me’ sees Lexxicon deliver a showstopping choreographed performance across multiple scenes and outfit changes, including an all-white dance number in the rain! A treat for the eyes and ears, ‘Power Over Me’ sees Lexxicon blend influences from Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean in order to create that iconic Afro/Caribbean hybrid sound for which he has come to be known and loved.

Born in Jamaica and raised in the UK and US before settling in Toronto, Canada, Lexxicon has been blessed with a rich, varied culture and strong ties to his heritage that have come to greatly influence his sound, aesthetic and musical inspirations. Citing names such as Vybz Kartel, Stefflon Don and Wizkid as some of his favourite artists, it’s no surprise that Lexxicon’s music has found its core fanbase amongst the kids of the diaspora who share his love for the authentic flavours of their home countries as well as the modern sound and styles of the new cities that have adopted them. From London to Leamington and from Africa to the Caribbean and back, Lexxicon’s music does more than sound good, it transcends borders, unites cultures and brings people together.

“Lexxicon personifies diversity with a unique sound, weaving an array of musical genres including Dancehall, Reggaeton, Hip-Hop, R&B, Trap and Latin rhythms.” – RX Music
