Brittany Bliss and Reid Givens, the married musical duo that make up Brittany and the Blisstones, write music that connects people. The concepts for their music revolve arounds the subjective experiences of being human:  wisdom and growth, love, fear, perspective and agency, and inspiration. They learn lessons from life and take inspiration from everything, knowing we are all interconnected.

Their new alternative folk-pop single, “Some Times” is an absolute hypnotic song. The Ukulele and Brittany’s soulful voice transport you to a new headspace and mindset instantly. With a big Ani DiFranco and Vampire Weekend feeling to the song, it’s about being present with yourself and listening to your needs. “This is a song of mindfulness,” reveals Reid. “We can’t control what thoughts pop up in our mind, but we have a choice to focus on the good stuff.”

The chord progression came first, and Brittany knew she wanted a heavy bass part. The inspiration for the lyrics was a joint effort between Brittany and Reid. In fact, this song was the first complete song that Brittany and Reid wrote together, and learned a lot about their collective writing process. “We wrote this together to help us remember that we always have a choice about which thoughts to focus on and expand, even though we don’t always get to choose what shows up in our minds!” says Brittany.

The song’s anthemic outro is a rallying call to choose happiness. It concludes with the lyrics “Let’s all keep singing/We’re surviving the flood/We’re all still singing/Cuz we’ve got air in our lungs.” The song builds in energy, starting slow and ending with a powerful musical force amplified by the trumpets.

“Some Times” is the reminder we all need that you just need to keep singing. We all feel stuck in the mud sometimes, but you’ll get through it.
