Born and raised in a small town in the English countryside, Maisy moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to pursue music full-time and has since developed a genre-fluid catalog while collaborating with top-tier producers like Timbaland, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, and Max Martin protégé Lukas “LULOU” Loules, racking up millions of streams globally.
In 2020, you may have noticed her breakout collaboration “The Storm” with gaming music creator TheFatRat go viral, recently surpassing 20 million streams on Spotify. More recently, your playlists likely included her hit single “Technicolor Honeymoon,” which climbed to #1 on the Pop Charts and #5 on the overall YouTube Charts and now boasts over 1 million views. Her latest collab, “KARMA (Tiësto Version),” dropped last August and hit #2 on the iTunes Charts.
Known for her cinematic visuals and emotional storytelling, Maisy seamlessly blends nostalgic dance-pop with a love of fantasy and reinvention, and you can hear that range in fan favorites like “Karma is a Bitch Like You,” “Scared Together” (remixed by R3HAB), and the Avatar-inspired “The Beast Within.” You also find her contribution of Japanese lyrics and vocals to the viral hit “Distance” by pop artist Andy, which reached #1 on Spotify’s Viral 50.
You may recognize her beyond music from appearances on the covers of GMARO and OUCH! magazines and from features that highlight her fashion-forward style and musical talent in publications such as Wonderland, Sweety High, Cliché Magazine, and LADYGUNN.
What first got you into music?
I’ve been singing as long as I can remember, before I could even talk! I used to sing Disney princess numbers to my dogs, but I think the thing that first made me consider a professional career was when I wrote my first musical aged 10! My primary school put it on for their summer performance, and I made the local papers, which introduced me to the world of recording and performing music.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I think it’s very emotive and honest. I write true to life, and I think whatever songs I’m releasing speak really truly to what I was going through at the time. I’ve been calling it whimsical pop, but the truth is I also love a sad ballad!
If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?
I love everything Chappel Roan is doing right now. I think her flamboyance and stage presence are very inspiring. I’m OBSSSSED with David by Lorde at the moment. That song truly pulls at the heartstrings. I also transparently love classical and instrumental music, and there’s always a lot of Ludovico Einaudi on my playlist at any given time.
What is your current music project about?
Healing and renewal. I went through a lot of tragedy this past year , and that’s something that I’ve been trying to help support myself through with music and artistry.
When you create music, what is your personal purpose or goal?
I hope to relate to people and connect with them. The best feeling is hearing that something I wrote helped someone through something, regardless of the context. I think music can be such a powerful therapeutic tool and I hope to offer a sense of relativistic and community for listeners, in that they’re not alone with their feelings. I think that’s the sort of music that really struck a chord with me growing up, and it’s what I aspire to try to create myself.
If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?
I’d honestly love to be able to communicate with animals. I have such a deep love for animals of all kinds and think it would be incredible to be able to understand their world.
If you were a tree, what kind would you be and why?
Definitely a willow tree! I used to make willow-woven bracelets as a kid, and I still feel such a strong connection to them.
