There are a lot of handicap-friendly places to visit in Colorado, but it can be hard to know if a place will be friendly before you actually visit. It’s incredibly frustrating to go somewhere and end up having to leave because they don’t have suitable accommodation. Thankfully, you are good to go with any of these handicap-friendly places.

The Denver Art Museum

Museums are exciting places to go for any kind of person, but not everywhere is as handicap friendly as you may like. Thankfully, the Denver Art Museum is not one of those places. It seeks to make all public areas of the museum wheelchair accessible, and there are accessible restrooms available as well. You can also schedule museum tours with a sign language interpreter, but this needs to be done a couple of weeks before your visit.

The Denver Botanic Gardens

This spot is another great place to go if you are looking for handicap-friendly attractions in Colorado. A major attraction of the gardens is a Sensory Garden with wide paths and small inclines that are great for those in wheelchairs. The garden beds are also raised to a height where those in wheelchairs can fully see and smell the flowers. Also, if you go a little early, the visitor’s center can direct you to the most accessible routes in the garden.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park is also a great handicap-friendly place to go when you are in Colorado. Not only are there plenty of beautiful views for you to stop at, but there are many wheelchair-accessible trails as well! There are also many camping areas where you can spend time out in nature and spot wildlife like chipmunks, elk, or even moose.

Wilderness on Wheels

Wilderness on Wheels is in Kenosha Pass and is available to people of all abilities. There is a beautiful mile-long boardwalk where you can stroll and look at all of the wonderful things that Colorado has to offer. More great parts of Wilderness on Wheels are the fishing ponds and even cabins if you want to stay overnight.

These are only a few of the best handicap-friendly places to visit in Colorado, but there are many more for you to discover. When you go out to any of these places, it is still important you have your disabled parking permit. Though these places are accessible, you still need to make sure you are in accordance with the local laws.
