Kat Velasco Shows The World She’s Got What It Takes On New Single “Show Pony”

Nashville-based pop country artist Kat Velasco makes waves with her new single “Show Pony.” A riveting track that reflects the powerful shift from meeting others’ expectations to fully stepping into your true self. It radiates a newfound freedom and independence, breaking away from those who want to keep you in a small, perfect bubble built on pleasing everyone else, and moving into a reality where you can truly be yourself. Velasco describes “Show Pony” as a song for anyone who has ever felt like a product of other people’s expectations and the empowerment of deciding to take back your power and just be you.”

The track blends light guitar strums with soothing drum patterns, contrasted by her deep, honest vocals, which capture the freedom of shedding others’ expectations. The song creates a backdrop all its own; the blend of her vocals and gentle guitar strums reflects the feeling of a small-town country girl in a place where image is everything, a feeling only Velasco can deliver. The lyric “I don’t wanna be anymore… just a doll on a shelf in a store” captures the ache of being seen as an object. A perfect little figure expected to stay still, behave, and never step outside the social norm.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, country-pop artist Kat Velasco discovered her love for music at an early age. She began singing at just five years old and started performing in musicals by the age of seven. After a hiatus from music throughout her teens and early 20s, she left her finance career during COVID to pursue music full-time. In 2021, she began releasing original songs, with her breakout single, “Leave Me Wild,” landing on Spotify’s New Music Weekly and Fresh Finds Country playlists. Now based in Nashville, Velasco has gained recognition with tracks like “Call Me”, which was featured on multiple playlists, with its music video being shown on CMT, marking her place as an emerging force within the industry. As well as more recent tracks such as “Name on My Phone” and “Paper Boy,” which have been championed by notable outlets like CMA, Wide Open Country, Holler, and Ones to Watch.

Stream and download the single on all platforms now. Follow Kat Velasco on Instagram @kat.velasco.music and TikTok @katvelasco.music, and check out her website katvelasco.com for future updates.
